Obituary of John Wellington Watson

WATSON, John Wellington – It is with great sadness we announce that after a courageous battle with cancer John has been called to his three infant angels.  John passed away peacefully with his family by his side on September 29, 2011 at the age of 83.  He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 61 years Gertrude Anne (nee Cannon); sons Vernie (Carole), David (Roseanne) and daughter Marie (Grant Hall).  He was the proud grandfather of Matthew (Corey), Travis, Rob and Wendy Hall and great-grandfather of Riley and Carter Hall.  Brother of Thora MacDonald (Jim), Jim (Jane) of Alberta, Howard (Marcella); and brother-in-law of Andrew, Joseph (Charlotte) of Florida, Phyllis, Agnes and Jenny.  John is also survived by best friends Ray and Jean Sauve and several nieces and nephews.  Predeceased by his father Albert, mother Florence, father-in-Law John, mother-in-law Lucy, three infant daughters, brothers-in-law Louis, Stratton, John, and Jim and sisters-in-law Kathleen (Ted), Rita Cannon and Rita McDonald (Edward).  John was born in London, raised in Calendar, ON and was a 41 year employee of Fiberglas Canada.  For many years he was dedicated to SMAA Hockey where he was named Hockey Man of the Year and had a passion for the Silver Stick. He was also an avid hunter.    Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Dostaler and the BWH, Palliative Care staff for their compassionate care of John.  Friends will be received at the McKENZIE & BLUNDY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 431 Christina St. N., Sarnia, on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Tony Laforet at St. Benedict’s Church on Tuesday, October 4th at 10:30 a.m.  Interment Resurrection Cemetery.  As an expression of sympathy, friends who wish may send memorial donations to St. Joseph’s Hospice, 475 N.
