Obituary of John Anthony Frangis

FRANGIS, JOHN ANTHONY – Peacefully surrounded by his loving family and friends at Afton Park Place, John passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2009, at the age of 93. Beloved husband of the late Pota (Eliopoulos) and the late Teresa (O’Shea). Loving father of Antonios (Tony), Sarnia and Stella her husband George Rigakos, Sarnia. Grandfather of Bill Rigakos, Sarnia, John Rigakos & his wife Georgia, London and Peter Rigakos, Sarnia. Great-grandfather of Cristina and Michael. Brother of Nick Frangis & his wife Georgina, Sarnia. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by a son Vasili, grandson John Anthony, 6 brothers, 1 sister and nieces and nephews. John was born in Xirokambion, Sparti, Lakonia, Greece and came to Canada in 1953. He came to Sarnia in 1957. He opened a number of restaurants in Sarnia including the Olympia Restaurant which is now owned for the past 41 years by his daughter and son-in-law Stella and George. John had many friends and was very well known and respected in the Greek Community. Visitation at the McKENZIE & BLUNDY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 431 N. Christina St., Sarnia, Friday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. where prayers will be offered at 8 p.m. The funeral service will be held at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 1299 Murphy Rd., (north of Michigan Ave.), Sarnia on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. officiated by Rev. Fr. Demetre Mouselimis. Interment Lakeview Cemetery.
