Obituary of Joan Bowring
BOWRING, Joan Louise - Died peacefully at Meadowview Villa on Sunday, April 1 at age 86. Joan was the daughter of the late Edward and Hannah Welch, of Birmingham, UK, and was the youngest of 7 siblings. She is survived by brother Bernard of Birmingham, son-in-law Mike Tanner and granddaughters Sarah (Kyle) Bouma, Kate (Ben) Allison, and Amy Tanner (Herb Fletcher). She is predeceased by her daughter, Dr. Linda Bowring. Joan joined the Wrens in WW2, and served at the Royal Naval establishment in Portsmouth and London. After the war she became a school secretary and later, salary administrator for the West Midlands School Board. She served in local politics and was elected council chair of Henley in Arden. At age 68 she immigrated to Canada, to be close to her daughter in Sarnia, and spent a happy retirement tending her beloved garden, playing bridge and traveling. She was a member of St George's Anglican Church. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service celebrating Joan's life will take place at 11a.m. Monday, April 9, 2007 at Trinity Anglican Church, Murphy Road, Sarnia. Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery.
