Obituary of Barbara Riches

RICHES, BARBARA – Surrounded by family at Bluewater Health, Palliative Care on Friday, May 9, 2014, Barbara Riches died at the age of 92. Predeceased by the love of her life Frank Riches (2007). Loving mother of Susan Gilmour & her husband Lee, Pt. Edward and Steve Riches & his wife Margo, Sarnia. Cherished aunt of Alec Gowland & his wife Lexie, Peterborough and Gordon Gowland & his wife Sheryl, Vancouver. Dear great-aunt of Amy, Adam, Jane and David and also several nieces and nephews in England and Australia. Sister-in-law of Pearl, Joy, Bernard and Angela. Predeceased by her parents Alec and Gladys Edgington and sister Jean Gowland & her husband Marshall. Barbara served in the British Land Army during WWII. She loved to knit, read and play scrabble. Barbara's passion was her family and she loved to spend time playing games, sharing memories and watching the Red Wings. The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Gamble her family doctor, Dr. Dhar, Dr. Mysliwiec, Dr. Suryavanshi, Dr. Cheong and the nursing staff in emergency, Med G, 4th Floor and Palliative Care (south wing) for all their loving care of mom in her last few days. Cremation has taken place. A memorial visitation to celebrate Barbara's life will be held 1-3 p.m. Thursday, May 15th, 2014 at the McKenzie & Blundy Funeral Home & Cremation Centre Ltd., 431 Christina St. N., Sarnia.
