Obituary of Vincent Gerber

GERBER, Vincent – Died peacefully at Bluewater Health on Saturday, December 14, 2013 in his 98th year. Beloved husband of the late Hilda (2013). Dear father of Bryan Gerber, Janet (Gary) Shrumm, Rita Gerber and the late John Gerber all of Sarnia. Loving grandfather of Amanda (Chris) White, Derek, Holly (Harry) Jonas and Paul Girouard. Great-grandfather of Braden and Brooklyn. Brother of Rita Prete, Ohio. Predeceased by his parents Paul & Clara Gerber, brother Carl Gerber and by sisters Madeline Brady, Leona McKeown, Helen Breen, Loretta Foulis, Josie Shaw and Sister Jeanette Gerber. Vince was retired from I.B.E.W Local 530 after more than 50 years of service. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Vince loved cycling around town and playing his violin. His workshop in the garage was his second home and he spent many happy hours creating things there. He was known as the "Banana Man" to the residents of various nursing homes that he visited. Vincent volunteered with The Irish Miracle, getting food baskets together and delivering the hampers to needy families. Visitation at the McKENZIE & BLUNDY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 431 N. Christina St., Sarnia, from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Wednesday. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Eugene Dziedzic at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 19, 2013 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church (Rosedale Ave. at Ellwood). Interment at Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery.
