Jean Mearce

Obituary of Jean Gladys Mearce

MEARCE, Gladys Jean née Rainsberry - Passed away peacefully on August 10, 2014. As her brother Fred always said, Jean was in her 97th year, having been born in Sarnia, September 8, 1917. Jean was a Sarnia gal and although she tried living in other locales, never for long and always returned to her beloved St. Clair River. She loved reading, playing Bridge and most certainly, dressing up for the inevitable cocktail parties. Her sense of style and fashion were an inspiration to many. Her leathers were a standard and she wore them on a regular basis and certainly when riding on George's Harley. Jean lived her life with joy. She loved to talk. In this she had the perfect partner. Her husband "Big George" was the strong and silent type.........Jean more than made up for his quiet manner. Spend more than 5 minutes with Jean and one was reduced to tears of laughter. In another life she may have been a comedian/talk show host. Her recounting of a trip to the grocery store would rival a routine by Ellen Degeneres. She loved to read, to travel and she was the consummate hostess. Jean coped admirably with macular degeneration despite the fact that it robbed her of her ability to read. Most of all she loved her family and life on the St. Clair River and Jean's desire to return to her home drove her numerous recoveries. We mourn her passing but in recognition of her joyful approach to everything a cocktail party was held at her condo. Jean would have loved it. Jean is survived by son, George, grandsons, Tyler and Trevor Mearce, nieces Elizabeth Rainsberry (Andy), Kate Rainsberry, nephew Paul Rainsberry, cousin Harry Rainsberry (Catherine) and many close friends. Predeceased by husband George Harper Rowe Mearce, daughter Helen Mearce, brother Fred Rainsberry and parents Amy and Nicholas Rainsberry. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements entrusted to the McKENZIE & BLUNDY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 519-344-3131. Messages of condolence & memories may be left at www.mckenzieblundy.com. A tree will be planted in memory of Jean Mearce in the McKenzie & Blundy Memorial Forest. Dedication service Sunday, September 21st, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Wawanosh Wetlands Conservation Area
