Obituary of Gerardus Theodore Houkes

HOUKES, Gerardus Theodore “Gerry” – At his home on Thursday, February 5, 2009, Gerardus died at the age of 79. Beloved husband of the late Adriana. Loving father of Edith and her husband Steve White, Bright’s Grove. Proud grandfather of Michelle & her husband Marc Vaillancourt and Braden White & his companion Carrie Clements; and great-grandfather of Zackarie and Troy Hall. Dear brother of Nellie Gabrielle and Mien Brans, both of Holland. Predeceased by his parents and several brothers and sisters. Gerardus came to Canada in 1967 and worked at Port Weller Dry Docks until his retirement. At Gerardus’ request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Arrangements are entrusted to the McKENZIE & BLUNDY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 519-344-3131. As an expression of sympathy, donations to the Palliative Care Unit, Bluewater Health, 89 Norman St., Sarnia, N7T 6S3 or the Canadian Cancer Society, 714 Lite St., Point Edward, N7V 1A6. A tree will be planted in memory of Gerardus Houkes in the McKenzie & Blundy Memorial Forest. Dedication service Sunday, September 20th, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Wawanosh Wetlands Conservation Area.
