Obituary of Lilli Gurzienski
GURZIENSKI, “Lilli” Lieselotte– It is with complete disbelief and profound sadness that I must announce the very sudden passing of the most spectacular woman, in every way; my inspiration, my best friend, and my mother on the evening of Friday, February 20th, 2009. Mom’s decline in health started 6 months after her retirement from St. Joseph’s Hospital. Her last few years of severe back pain made it impossible for her to visit, nor tend to her beloved garden which she started at the back of her apartment building where she has resided since December 1973. Very few knew how difficult mom’s life was as she never complained. She always had to work so very hard. I am so proud of her and so lucky that she is my mom. She is survived by one sister, Gretel in Kulmbuch, Germany. There are so many of you that I would like to acknowledge, but for now will mention a few. To the sisters of St. Joseph’s Hospital, one in particular who took mom under her wing when a miracle was needed; thank you sister. To Dr. Kimberley Barnett, thank you for your wonderful care; Roberta Howorth, for your daily visits with love and friendship; Carol & Ronnie (as mom calls you) for looking out for her; Lynn & George for moving her car and checking on her; Jeff Burchill and staff for their honesty and compassion at all times which eased her worries; and to Debbie Edgar for your recent visit, and the joy your zest for life always gave mom when working together in CS. In keeping with mom’s wishes, cremation has taken place. I would very much like to have a party in the summer when the flowers are in bloom to celebrate this special lady. I will announce the details of this celebration at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to McKenzie & Blundy Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 519-344-3131. Please consider contributions of flowers to ‘mom’s garden’ in the spring rather than traditional arrangements sent to the family at this time. Friends who wish may forward memorial donations to Bluewater Health, Palliative Care, 89 Norman St., Sarnia N7T 6S3 or the Sarnia & District Humane Society, 131 Exmouth St., Sarnia N7T 7W8. Messages of condolence & memories may be left at www.mckenzieblundy.com. Thank you so much everyone for all your kind words and offers of help. My dream is to return to Sarnia, my birthplace, where mom and I shared many wonderful times. Sincerely, Helen Gurzienski.
A tree will be planted in memory of Liselotte Gurzienski in the McKenzie & Blundy Memorial Forest. Dedication service Sunday, September 20th, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Wawanosh Wetlands Conservation Area.
