Obituary of Jessie DeRush
DeRUSH (BRUNTON), Jessie Butters – After 95 full years of life, Mrs. Jessie Butters Brunton DeRush died peacefully in her sleep, 10 days before her 96th birthday. Jessie now joins her beloved only daughter, Sandy Schultz, and her loving husband Cliff De Rush in heaven. Jessie is survived by her granddaughters Andrea Schultz-Allison (Darren Allison) and Nicole Schultz (Paul Wilkins), and her 2 great grandchildren Lucia and Nolan. Jessie’s son-in-law Wayne Schultz (Judy Schultz) and Jessie’s brothers Joe and Jim Brunton, and her remaining DeRush family will always be in her heart. Jessie’s family originally moved from Scotland and Jessie was born in Hamilton, Ontario, moving to Sarnia, Ontario, when she was 10 years old. Jessie had an older sister, Daisy, and a great love for all things family. An avid baseball player as a little girl, Jessie was an animal lover and a great ice-cream-eater, baker, chef and caretaker. Andrea and Nicole will always enjoy their memories of Grandma, especially dancing to Dean Martin, eating the butter balls, and listening to many, many stories. Grandma became a “landmark” on Elrick Crescent, known to all the neighbours for a friendly wave from the porch, and she leaves behind many friends there. St. Giles Presbyterian Church was Jessie’s “home” church for many years until Central Baptist Church welcomed her into the family after the death of her daughter Sandy. She made many cherished friends at Central Baptist Church who visited her, prayed for her, and sent beautiful, loving cards which she has kept to this day. Jessie was a proud member of the Grace Kenyon Circle at Central Baptist Church for many years. Visitation at the McKENZIE & BLUNDY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 431 N. Christina St., Sarnia on Wednesday, August 19th from 6-8 p.m. A funeral service for Jessie will be held at Central Baptist Church on Thursday, August 20th at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at Lakeview Cemetery.
