Turner family: As a teacher Doug was in very good company at Sarnia Central. He was, however, a truly amazing “one of a kind” gift to us in the classroom and on campus. The marvelous manner with which he successfully conducted business, and lived life made him an exemplary role model for all of us who were blessed to be around him. My father, Kingsley, respected and valued Doug as a professional colleague at Central. Please accept my most heartfelt condolences.

So many happy memories of time spent with Uncle Doug! Some favourites include: playing tug-boat and helping me “swim” in the pool, discovering clever names of boats in the marina before our boat rides, slide-shows of his adventures with Aunt Sarah, watching Canada Day fire-works from his apartment balcony and annual Christmas Eve celebrations. Mr. Turner made an incredible impression on me at Central in Grade 12. I like to think that his positive manner in teaching had much to do with my success to-day living and working beside Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.

Here was a man who opened so many minds to not only study history but to learn and enjoy so much more from it as well .
