Obituary of John William Carr

CARR, John William - At Vision Nursing Home in Sarnia on Friday, September 2, 2016 at the age of 86. Beloved husband of Irene (Blazic). Dear father of Theresa (Ali) Imamshah of Winnipeg, Cathy of Bradford, Gary (Pamela) of Bermuda, Elizabeth (Louis) Schincariol of Mississauga and Brian of Kitchener. Loving grandfather of Matthew (Michelle), Christopher, Shannon, Daniel, Kelly and Ryan. Great-grandfather of Oliver. John is survived by his sister, Mary Mihajic of Sudbury, brother-in-law Dr. Charles Blazic of Toronto as well as several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his brother James Carr of Winnipeg. John was born in Toronto and raised in Niagara Falls, Ontario before moving his family to St. Catharines and finally Sarnia. He was a long-time employee of Bayer (Polysar) until he retired in 1995. He was active with the retirees at Huron Oaks and especially enjoyed playing volleyball, winning at euchre and completing old fashioned puzzles. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Sacred Heart Church. John was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and enjoyed seeing them when they played in nearby Detroit, or during spring training in Florida. John loved gardening and cottaging in Haliburton and Muskoka. He was fortunate to be able to travel often to Bermuda and Lake Oconee, GA. A sincere thank you to Dr. Gannon and all the staff at Vision Rest and Nursing Home for caring for John when staying at home was no longer an option. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at the McKENZIE & BLUNDY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 431 Christina St. N., Sarnia, on Friday, September 9, 2016 from 12 noon until 1 p.m. followed by a brief memorial service in the McKenzie & Blundy Chapel. Family interment to take place at a later date in Niagara Falls, Ontario. As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations in John's memory may be made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation. Dedication service Sunday, September 18th, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Wawanosh Wetlands Conservation Area.
