Obituary of Giovanni Di Scanno
Di SCANNO, GIOVANNI - With his family by his side at Bluewater Health, Giovanni "John" Di Scanno died peacefully on January 30, 2017. Beloved husband of Angela (Tote). Loving father of Cathy (Saverio) Cocozzoli, Anna (Angelo) Iafrate and Elio (Helen) Di Scanno. Cherished Nonno of Melissa (Anthony) Iafrate, Ernie Cocozzoli (Jen Somers-Hanly), Jessica Cocozzoli (Chris Dundee), Daniela (Rob) France, Anthony Iafrate (Kelly Levert), and Julia & Robert Di Scanno. Special Bisnonno of Aveah France. Dear brother of Maria Ferrera (late Antonio). Brother-in-law of Cristina Di Scanno, Liberata (Giuseppe) Ferrera, Maria Tote (late Frank), Teresa (Ascenzo) Caschera and Sante Tote (late Iole). Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Domenico and Lucia, his brother Luigi Di Scanno and sister Giuseppina Conte (Andrea). Born and raised in Fontechiari Italy, John immigrated to Canada in 1961. With a new bride at his side, he started his journey with little more than the clothes on his back and his cherished accordion. From humble beginnings, John demonstrated unrelenting work ethic to provide a wonderful life for his wife and three children. He measured his life's success by the level of respect he garnered and was never concerned with the allure of material wealth. For fun, John loved to socialize and entertain family and friends. His funny stories, singing, dancing and playing the accordion were always complimented by a loving dose of his authentic Italian food and self-proclaimed 'award winning' wine. As an avid outdoorsman, John enjoyed and excelled at hunting, fishing, golf and bocce. During retirement, his routine was coffee with Angela under the bridge then hours spent watching nature, tending to his amazing gardens and nurturing his prized fig trees. For his family that he so treasured, John's passing has created a void that will never be filled. Friends will be received at the McKENZIE & BLUNDY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 431. N.
