Obituary of Vittoria Marinigh
On June 2nd, Vittoria Marinigh (nee Mariuz) passed peacefully and with grace in her 94th year at Bluewater Health. She was predeceased by her husband Aldo (1998) and nine siblings. She is survived by her children Daniel (Patricia Dillabough), Paula (Paul Turner), Brenda (Michael Gilroy), Diana and Roberta, and by her grandchildren Julia, Brian, Jenna, Michael and Melissa. She is lovingly remembered by her nieces Dorothy Livingston and Betty Minato, and many more nieces and nephews in Canada, the United States and Italy.
Vittoria immigrated from Pordenone, Italy in 1949 with the support of her brother Giovanni and settled in Sarnia with her brother Fino and sister-in-law Julia Mariuz. She was soon employed at Prestolite and was proud to purchase her first home. Married in 1955, she and Aldo raised five children. For Vittoria, being a wife and mother were her most important roles. Later, Vittoria worked in the custom drapery and catalogue departments of Sears Canada. After retiring she enjoyed travelling the world with her husband. Vittoria treasured being a nonna and showered her grandchildren with love, support and encouragement. Gathering family around her table to enjoy her traditional Italian cooking and homemade wine was one of her greatest pleasures. An accomplished seamstress and knitter, Vittoria loved gifting her beautiful creations to others. She enjoyed tending her vegetable garden and canning and preserving its harvest. Not one to shy away from a challenge, she was an enthusiastic cribbage opponent. Vicky always looked forward to her weekly coffee club dates with her friends.
Throughout her life Vittoria was guided by faith, love and devotion to family. She faced life’s challenges with tenacity and courage. Vittoria had an independent spirit and lovingly maintained the family home until her passing. She will be remembered by the example she set.
Riposa in pace Mamma.
The family wishes to thank Doctor Niall O’Sullivan for his kindness and care.
