Obituary of Giuseppa Spano
With her family by her side, on January 13, 2023, Giuseppa Spano passed away peacefully at home in Sarnia, at the age of 98. Born in Roggiano Gravino, Province Reggio Calabria, Italy, she courageously immigrated to Canada (Sarnia) in 1953. Beloved wife of her late husband, Antonio Spano. Dear mother of Paula Beaudet (Thomas) of Chatham and Dr. Joseph Spano (Dominique) of Sarnia. Much loved grandmother of 5 grandchildren: Dr. Anne-Marie Beaudet, Dr. Frank Spano, Dr. Vincent Spano, Dr. Stephen Spano, and Dr. Valerie Spano. Sister-in-law of Rosa Mezzatesta, Sarnia. Aunt of Dani Mezzatesta (Daniela), Sarnia; Lynda Orlando, Sarnia; and Lora Porter (Ron), Kitchener. Predeceased by parents Rocco and Grazia Mezzatesta and brother Antonio Mezzatesta; sister-in-law Maria Mirabito (Carmello); Agatha Spano; Cecilia Medici (Francesco); and Franco Spano (Maria) all of Italy; father-in-law Giulio Spano (Paola). She will also be missed by her many cousins in Australia. Giuseppa was a member of St. Peter’s Pensioner’s Club, played bocci for many years, and enjoyed her retirement by spending time with her grandchildren, who were her pride and joy. She will be sorely missed and forever remembered for her courage, her kindness, her generosity, her wisdom and her sense of humour. Visitation at the McKenzie & Blundy Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 431 Christina St. N, Sarnia, Monday, January 16, 2023 7-9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 pm Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at St. Benedict Roman Catholic Church. Entombment at Our Lady of Mercy Mausoleum.
