Obituary of Peter James O'Neil
O’NEIL, Peter James – Peacefully, with his family by his side, Peter passed away at Bluewater Health, Palliative Care, on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at the age of 76. Beloved husband of Jean (nee Blue) for 52 yrs. Loving father of Jim O’Neil (Rhonda), Sarnia, Heather Szabo (Les), Sarnia, Jennifer McIntosh (Jamie), B.C. and Ryan O’Neil (Aoife), Sarnia. Cherished grandfather of Tylor (Rachel), Jessica, Teighan (Dan), Callum, Senan, Colin, Derek, Vaughan and Josh. Proud great grandfather of Alanna, Lukas, Colton, Kalo, Ellis and Logan. Dear brother of Cathy Williams (late Lyle), Donna Snauwaert (John), Kathleen Odowd (Ken) and brother-in-law of John Blue. Beloved Uncle to several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his loving mother Ellen Teresa (Enright)(O'Neil) Harty.
Peter served in the Royal Canadian Navy as a submarine sonar technician. He worked for Muttart Builder Supplies, Beaver Lumber / Home Hardware for several years. Peter enjoyed being of service to his community through volunteering for the Warwick Township Fire Department for 30 years, as a member of the Warwick Lions Club, St. Michaels Knights of Columbus, Inn of the Good Shepherd, and as a driver for the Canadian Cancer Society. Peter enjoyed the outdoors, playing golf, baseball, canoeing, bowling, and woodworking. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the wonderful loving care given by staff at Trillium Villa Nursing Home and Bluewater Health, Palliative Care.
Visitation will be held at the McKENZIE & BLUNDY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 431 N. Christina St., Sarnia, on Thursday, February 16, 2023 from 6-9 p.m. where words of remembrance may be offered at 8:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Michael’s Church (Bright’s Grove) on Friday, February 17, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. Interment Lakeview Cemetery.
