Alex was born in Abucay, Bataan, Philippines on February 27, 1928. He experienced a harsh childhood during World War II, under the Japanese occupation. After the war, Alex graduated from the Mapua Institute of Technology in 1954, with a BSc in Electrical Engineering, becoming his family’s first university graduate. In 1958, he met and married the love of his life, Leonides.
Alex immigrated to Fort McMurray, AB, Canada in 1967, fulfilling his ambition to live in North America and to provide his children with better education and opportunities. After two winters and an ultimatum from Leony, Alex moved his young family to Sarnia, ON where he worked at the Imperial Oil Refinery, until his retirement. Dad had the talent to repair almost anything ranging from antique cars, appliances and toys to plumbing and electronics. He was very resourceful and loved to share his knowledge with those who were interested.
Alex was a dedicated family man and was extremely proud of his children, his grandchildren and his great granddaughter. He loved to talk about them to anyone who would listen. Alex will be greatly missed by his family and his many friends.
Alex’s family would like to thank the staff at Bluewater Health and LIHN for their support over the years looking after Alex.
