Gerhard Sprenger

Obituary of Gerhard Simon Joseph Sprenger

Quietly at Bluewater Health on January 18, 2025, Gerhard “Gerry” Simon Joseph Sprenger, took steps into the next part of his adventure. Born in Militec in the former Yugoslavia, on his family’s hemp farm on March 29, 1942. During the war, the family emigrated to Austria and finally Canada, settling in Kitchener, Ontario.

Beloved husband of the late Dianne nee Musclow (2019). Loving father of Lou Sprenger (Shauna Carr) and Julia Marsh (Glen) and their fur baby Marvin. Gerry will be deeply missed by his sisters Hermine Schuster and Helen Scott (Tom), sisters in law Pam (Mike) Williams and Marion (John) Hinz as well as many nieces, nephews, and the Toro St crew.

Gerry was a Civil Engineer but spent his career educating many students in mathematics at SCITS. Students will remember him with a smile and a chuckle over his comical way of teaching. After retirement, Gerry enjoyed the Point Edward Casino and playing games with friends and family including Chess and Backgammon. Fun was always paramount to Gerry. Life was a game to be played and enjoyed. In his later years he spent many an hour playing Cribbage with Jules and Dominoes with the rest of the family. He certainly wanted to win each and every game always waiting to say, “You didn’t say Last Chip!”

Gerry had many friends who helped him negotiate his mobility challenges throughout his life. The family is grateful for their care and support. The family would like to thank the great staff at Afton Park Place for their care of Gerry these past 7 years. Many thanks to the caring nurses on the 5th floor (Palliative Care) Bluewater Health during his final days.

Cremation has taken place. As per the family’s wishes, there will be a Celebration of Life in Kitchener, at a later date. Memorial donations can be made to the Sarnia Humane Society or the Sarnia-Lambton Chapter of the Kidney Foundation. Messages of condolence and memories may be left at www.mckenzieblundy.com. Arrangements entrusted to McKenzie and Blundy Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, Sarnia.
